What is the difference between UI and UX designer?
Until a few years ago, I did not have an exact definition of UI/UX, so I decided to research and output my research and experience, became the article I wrote here about UI UX and the difference between the two. Thanks to one of my professors at Seneca College, who made me write my first blog post.
If you are a little familiar with the world of design, you will often come across the terms Ui and Ux. Two headwords that are always next to each other. But what do these mean? If you ask ten people, what are UI and UX? You hear ten different answers. Most people who design a website or web application call it “UI UX designer”. Is this a correct definition? Do we have a UI/UX designer at all?
What is the UX?
Basically, UX stands for User Experience. User experience designer tries to improve the user experience of working with a site, product or service. That is, if I am a user experience designer somewhere, I have to know all the paths that the user reaches our product, guess all the scenarios that may occur to the user and try to have an ideal user experience in all these paths, and of course, This experience achieves our goals (directing the user in the direction we want to go). As you can see, this is practically a kind of research and its output is a series of suggestions and solutions that are given to other departments of the company.
What is the UI?
On the other hand, UI stands for User Interface. User interface design means designing the parts of the digital product that the user sees and uses. The user interface designer is practically dealing with graphic designs and implementing these designs on the site. That is, part of the work is done by the graphic designer who designs the site or application, and the other part is done by the front end programmer who implements the final design.
What is the difference between UX design and UI design?
The UX designer manages and plans the user’s approach to the product and service step by step. Thinks why and under what conditions the user uses this product, where it is supposed to be directed after entering the site or application, what is shown to it and what our goals are? (for example, we want them to eventually register on our site, buy or just give us their contact information.).
The UX designer provides suggestions and ideas based on user needs. For example, it says that the first page should have a search box or a button to register at the bottom of the page. the other part should be transferred to the design team. the part that is related to the appearance of the web or application is left to the UI designer.
You may have seen a picture like the one above that shows the difference between a UI and UX. It can be said that the UI only is a small part of the UX. But even after the design is complete, the UX designer constantly reviews user behaviour and tests ways to improve the user experience in dealing with the product, and these reviews will improve the UI in future updates.
Is there a market for UX designers?
UX skills are in high demand around the world, especially in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia. According to a LinkedIn survey, UX design is one of the top five in-demand skills. This trend is expected to continue in 2021.
The demand for UX designers is also reflected in InVision’s “Product Design Hiring Study.” According to the survey, 70% of people managers increased the size of their design team in the previous year. Their respondents also predicted that their design teams would expand by an average of 21%.
What Salary Will I Earn as a UX Designer?
Salaries for UX professionals are rising due to increased competition, especially for mid-level and senior roles. Salaries are determined by a variety of factors, including years of experience, company type, and company location.
The minimum wage for a UX designer is $90,478 according to Glassdoor’s “50 Best Jobs in America for 2020” survey.
